Numerous solutions are available for automating workpiece clamping systems. The goal is to sustainably increase productivity and cost-effectiveness in manufacturing. However, this potential can only be fully realized if all process steps—from clamping and handling to machining—interlock reliably, reproducibly, and without disruption.
The EROWA VPC (Vise Power Clamp) clamping system was developed precisely to meet these requirements. In combination with the appropriate EROWA loading and automation solutions, the system enables consistently reliable automation of workpiece clamping systems. At the same time, the universal system concept offers a high degree of flexibility for a wide variety of manufacturing tasks.
At the heart of the system are two VPC chuck sizes with 52 mm and 96 mm center distances, as well as the corresponding VPC clamping pins. All workpiece clamps, fixtures, or even workpieces that are prepared for these standard interfaces can be directly mounted in the corresponding VPC chucks and handled automatically.
The setup is deliberately simple: The VPC clamping pins are screwed into and secured on the workpiece clamping device, the fixture, or directly on the workpiece—no further adjustments are necessary.
The VPC chucks themselves are based on the proven, functionally sophisticated EROWA clamping technology. Features include integrated Z-surface cleaning, reliable status monitoring, and a circumferential seal to protect the functional surfaces. VPC chucks can be mounted directly on the machine table or via a base plate and provide a clamping force of 15 kN. Workpiece carrier changes are automated and take only seconds, with a repeatability of less than 0.003 mm.
The VPC clamping pins are made of hardened high-quality steel and are designed for a long service life. Precisely ground functional surfaces ensure optimal seating in the chuck and guarantee a secure clamping process—a crucial prerequisite for stable, trouble-free automation.
Using adapter pallets, the VPC clamping system can also be easily combined with other EROWA clamping systems such as UPC or MTS. This further increases flexibility within workpiece production and allows for customization to meet specific needs.
