Passion in Machined Metal

In the world of super sports cars, there are names that send shivers down your spine. Pagani is one of them. Vehicles such as the Huayra or the new Utopia are more than cars – they are moving sculptures. An expression of a radical pursuit of form, function and fascination. But to bring such masterpieces onto the road, partners are needed who share this ambition. Partners like EROWA AG.

Here, where passion lives in every detail, more than 700 components are created for each vehicle – many of them from a single block of titanium or aluminium. Take the steering wheel, for example: milled from solid material, technically perfect and aesthetically a work of art.
“When we show this, hardly anyone believes it was manufactured by machine – the surface is that flawless,” says Production Manager Antonio Gerardi.

Yet behind this perfection lies more than just high-tech. It is the result of uncompromising thinking that does not leave excellence to chance.

Craftsmanship Meets High Technology

To combine this quality with efficiency and flexibility, systems are required that can think along with the process. That is why Modena Design chose automation solutions from EROWA. What may appear to be rigid technology at first glance is in reality an intelligent partner in the manufacturing process.

At the heart of the system is the EROWA Robot Dynamic 250 Linear, which serves two MAKINO 5-axis machining centres operating together. The four rack magazines and the central loading station enable fully automated 24/7 operation – flexible for single parts as well as small batches. Thanks to the MTS and PC210 Combi zero-point clamping system with pallet sizes MTS 400, PC 210 and ITS 148 mm, workpiece changes are flexible, fast and secure – with repeatability below 3 microns.

The result:
“More than 7,540 machine hours per milling machine in 2024 – while maintaining the highest quality,” says Antonio Gerardi: “When excellence is the goal, you need systems that think along with you. Exactly like those from EROWA.”

Automation with a Soul

But technology alone is not enough. What truly impresses is the flow of processes: the JMS 4.0 process control system manages the orders, the EWIS chip system identifies each pallet, and the operator always has a clear overview of utilisation and job status. Everything works seamlessly together. “The introduction of the new machines together with the EROWA Robot Dynamic 250 automation was a decisive step for us,” says Antonio Gerardi. “We did not want a standard solution, but a system that preserves our flexibility – because our manufacturing is based on precision in small batches and individual parts. That is exactly what EROWA delivers.”

Achieving Great Things Together

What makes this partnership special is not only the technology – it is the shared understanding. The determination to achieve the best possible result without compromise. The ambition not only to automate processes, but to perfect them.

In 2025, Modena Design will manufacture all milled components for 80 Pagani vehicles – in-house, automated – and with a passion that can be felt. Because in the end, it is not only metal that is shaped. It is a feeling. For precision. For speed. For perfection. And for all those working behind the scenes to put such dreams on wheels.
